The fake COVID-19 vaccine record is in the SMS message, aimed at establishing a malicious application

There is a fake SMS message circulating in India claiming to provide an app to allow users to register for the COVID-19 vaccine. However, this application aims to spread the malware via SMS messages once installed on the mobile device, instead of providing a formal way to register for the vaccine. The malicious use was initially named COVID-19, but later received an update, but renamed it the vaccine record. Because a large number of people face problems when registering for the COVID-19 vaccine through the official Govt portal, attackers can be persuaded by users to install the app.

Lucas Stefanko, malware researcher at cybersecurity company ESET Tweeted About the SMS message asking users to download the application to register for the COVID-19 vaccine. The researcher said the message was aimed at Indian users and was designed to impersonate the ‘Covit-19 vaccine free registration’.

However, the SMS message contains a link that installs a worm app, which spreads itself via SMS to the victim’s contacts with a link to download the malware. The app also gains unwanted permissions that can be alienated by attackers in order to obtain user data.

Although the application was initially called COVID-19, it did Renamed The vaccine has received light mode to reach more devices in the registry and over time. It also has support for dual SIM connectivity. This will allow the malware to spread using the first operator available on the device.

Users are highly recommended to avoid any SMS messages that contain links telling them to download applications. It should also be noted that registrations for the Govt-19 vaccine currently take place only through the Govin portal and the Health Setu and Umang applications.

However, there are third-party sites through which you can receive notifications when the slot for Jab is available. The government has also offered the option of locating your nearest COVID-19 vaccination center using the Mykov Corona Helpdesk Chat.

The government last week expanded the rolling of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country by launching registrations from 18-44 year olds. Vaccine records were opened before the age of 45 and over.
