Since Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola, the Lenovo Moto G has been branded as the company’s fourth-generation smartphone. The classic Motorola logo can still be found on the handset, but it is clear that Lenovo wants to offer the Moto as its subsidiary brand. In particular, the company plans to replace its Wii series with Moto smartphones.
The Moto G (General 3) (review) and Moto G (turbo version) (review) smartphones were successful, but we had complaints about the camera performance on these phones. But Motorola has faced this problem in all its smartphones. The Moto G4 Plus is a slightly better specification phone than the Moto G4 and has better features in terms of camera and software. Let’s review this new smartphone of Moto G4 Plus today and see how this smartphone of Moto looks like.
Look and designMotorola’s well-known design can also be found on the G4 Plus. However, this is not entirely the same as before, but it can certainly be recognized as a moto product. The rubber back cover with round metal frame gives good grip on the phone. This phone is slightly larger than the previous Moto G smartphone because of its 5.5 inch full HD TFT screen. Smartphones can be operated very easily even in sunlight and the best colors can be seen on the display. Corning Gorilla Glass is provided for protection. The G4 Plus is very slim and 7.9mm thick. But carrying the phone in hand is not heavy.
The Moto G4 Plus does not offer the trademark grille offered on the Moto G smartphone. But this new smartphone from Moto has been given the space of a fingerprint sensor. It does not work as a physics button, but only on touch. The fingerprint sensor can detect fingerprints from any angle, and besides, sometimes it works well to avoid false identification.
All the buttons are well placed on the phone so that they are easily accessible to the user. The headphone socket is on the top while the micro-USB port is on the bottom.
This phone has a flat rear instead of the curved design of the back given in the previous smartphone of the Moto G model. The phone has a 16-megapixel camera with dual-tone LED flash and laser autofocus system, which is a nice upgrade.
The non-removable 3000 mAh battery can be found on the phone by removing the back panel. On the edge, there are microSD cards (132GB support) and two micro SIM slots. The Moto G4 Plus comes with a nano-to-micro SIM card adapter. But this phone does not have IP67 certification (water resistant) like the previous variants.
The retail box of the phone has a turbocharger (25 watts) and a headset. But the wall charger is not a modular one, so you will need a separate USB cable for data transfer. The quality of the headset is a bit poor and it does not fit properly in our ears.
Specification and featureThe Moto G4 Plus is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 processor, which runs on a 1.5 GHz octa core chip. The same processor was used in the HTC One A9 (Review). This phone will have 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Connectivity options include 4G LTE (Type 4), Bluetooth 4.11 Low Energy, Dual Band WiFi P / G / N, GPS, Clonas, USB-OTG and FM Radio. You will not find the NFC feature on this phone.
Like all Moto smartphones, the G4 Plus runs on the stock version of Android, but this time with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.
The Moto G4 Plus has LEDs on the right side of the fingerprint sensor, but we noticed that it works well when charging. Also, other motion-based gestures work smoothly. The phone does not have a lot of pre-loaded apps, but the file manager and Google’s standard apps are provided.
PerformanceThe Moto G4 Plus is a good performer, which makes anything worse. On the phone, the user gets 1.2GB of RAM. During the animation and application change, we did not see any issues with this phone. The problem is hot when playing phone games or data-GPS, but can not use it. When the phone heats up, you may have a small problem with the camera usage, which may be due to controlling the computer’s CPU speed to protect the phone from overheating. We got good benchmark stats for the phone.
The gallery app has been replaced by Google’s photo app, which we don’t like, but it works. Full HD videos can be easily played on the phone. In the Photo app, you can edit photos and organize video. Music application provided for music, but does not support FLAC files. Equilibrium is also provided for wired headphones and speakers. Single speakers provide good sound for alerts in public media playback and earphones.
One of the biggest features of the G4 Plus is the camera of the G4 Plus. The 16-megapixel rear camera aperture comes with f / 2.0, phase detection autofocus (PDAF). The phone is equipped with a laser autofocus system to quickly capture the object. Tap-slider can be used to focus and express expression to center the object. In this case the focus is on long tapping, which helps a lot. Apart from this, the camera app offers slow-motion video, panorama and professional mode. The camera is very easy to use when you adjust focus, white balance, shutter speed, ISO and exposure exposure in low light.
Landscape and macro photos during the day provide better quality photos than ever before. The detail is very good and the cameras can take good color photos. We recommend having an HDR auto set to help make photos look great. At the same time, pictures taken indoors are nice, but when zoomed in, the detail and colors are scattered. It can record video up to a maximum of 1080 pixels and photos look good in daylight and low light. Selfie can take a good detail in good light from the front camera. Apart from this, barcodes and QRcodes can be read directly from the camera application.
Battery lifeIn the video loop test of the Moto G4 Plus battery, the battery went with us for 12 hours and 4 minutes, which is very good. At the same time, since both the SIM cards are in normal use, this Moto smartphone was able to run for about one and a half days at full charge. The phone supports turbocharger or fast charging, which allows the battery to be charged faster.
Our decisionThe new smartphone in the Moto G series can be called the welcome option that comes with the Moto G4 Plus, performance and feature improvements. The phone has a customizable processor so Android can work easily. Good fingerprint sensor, good camera and better battery life make the phone better. The Moto G4 Plus is a very good option in this price range.
The conflict has gotten harder, but in our view, the Moto G4 Plus has it all on its own. Its special feature is the timely release of the Android update. The G4 Plus would have been even better if it had the same water and dust protection feature as the previous smartphone. At the same time, low light can improve the camera’s poor performance.
If you are looking for a phone that comes with great features at a low price, the Moto G4 Plus is definitely a good option.
